FORMULA ONE -SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

FIRST EVER NIGHT RACE IN THE F1 CALENDAR!~

The awesome event ended on a high note yesterday night.. The news were splashed all over the front pages of newspapers^^
A major event for Singapore in 2008. Yeah of course $150m had been poured in, it BETTER BE successful, OR ELSE.. Heheh.. A god damn waste of taxpayers' and sponsors' money.

I, the average not-so-rich citizen, cant afford the F1 tickets which costs around $1000. Yeps, Formula One's basically a rich man's sport, so the prices of tickets are unsurprisingly steep. The tickets were all snapped up anyway.
Before the event, i only know Sophie's going to watch with her family ---at the VIP stand near the most dangerous turn. WOAHS!

Then when i login Facebook, today i realised that there's 2 lucky chaps who went to watch it too!~
Koped the pics from there =D

The i-dunno-which-grandstand-cos-i-din-take-this-picture with the Singapore Flyer in the background. Not bad sia~

And lucky Danial got Felipe Massa's autograph.. Yeahs it's for real, his friend even took pictures of the 'process' to 'certify' the authenticity of it. One of the pics is now his Facebk profile pic. Hehe..
Massa's a title contender BEFORE the Singapore leg of the Grand Prix, but he didnt manage to earn a single point this time. So his season is kinda OVER. The overall champion's within reach of Hamilton. Quite sad for Ferrari this time. First it was Massa's pit stop horror, driving off with the fuel hose still attached and hurling a crew member to the ground in the process. Luckily the other Ferrari driver Raikkonen cruised into the grid in the pit lane slowly, if not the crew member might've been knocked down by the subsequent car. Afterwards, the camera zoomed in on several Ferrari crew members carrying the huge fuel hose using their shoulders, back to their pit. That was so embarassing can?!?

This series of photos was taken by another guy Jeremy..
He said that's Lewis Hamilton..
I say.. It should be.. Well.. cos i wasnt there.. *sigh*

The cars whizzing past when the lights turned green. The BEST part of the race as all the drivers try to wrestle past each other & squeeze into whatever space thats available.

My whole family watched the event.. 2 full hours.. AT HOME la.. what else?
EXCITING!~
I love watching F1 racing since hmmm many years ago? Mediacorp tv used to screen the races many years ago, but stopped. So my bro and i switched to watching malaysia channel, but in recent year(s), there wasnt any to be found screening there too =x

Hoots.. I love the picturesque backdrop, the tricky turns...
BUT not the bumpy roads and plenty of debris on the tracks. Singapore's a garden city.. Yes. but there's just too many dried leaves all over the track and once a race car vroom past, it's like 'wow..' leaves and more leaves flying all around. Just like autumn, but it's less romantic over there.

The winner to the race turned out to be Fernando Alonso!

No one, even he himself thought he had chances on the podium, cos he was starting from 15th position and given the narrow circuit, it was near impossible to overtake so so many cars in his way. Ironically, when his teammate Piquet crashed his car, it became the turning point for this race when the safety car was put in action. That somehow put the 2 Ferraris behind. (1st and 3rd become 16th and 18th lorh.. how sad) But thats where the excitement from F1 comes from. Unpredictable conditions and situations at times^^

The Renault car that Alonso drives.. Oki.. it's just a similar one. It cant possibly be on display when he needs it for the race right? LOL..

Though drivers' faces are hidden underneath helmets and all.. The eye candy factor's present in F1 too! Sorry guys... i arent talking abt grid girls..

I used to think Kimi Raikkonen's super cute (when he first came out at the age of 22.. super talented too! But his McLaren car wasnt that reliable then.. Wasted many of his podium chances) Now he's with Ferrari (yeah more reliable carmaker) but that couldnt help much when he smashed into a wall with only 4 more laps to go. Sigh..

Now, one of the hottest drivers should be Nico Rosberg, i know some girls are going gaga over Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel's not that bad..

Enough of sidetracking..

I'm certainly looking forward to next year's Grand Prix in Singapore!

Yeps, for those who arent into F1 racing, this is an annual competition, unlike World Cup and Olympics =D
